Icy Strait Shore Excursion

One Day at Icy Strait Point

Sample planning patterns — not a ship calendar. Match length to your actual all-aboard time.

These outlines are editorial. We do not publish cruise-call schedules or invent ship lists. Always confirm pier assignment, gondola needs, and tour meeting points with your cruise line and operator.

Short call (about 5–6 hours ashore)

  • Confirm pier: Adventure vs Wilderness (+ gondola if needed)
  • Choose ONE: whale cruise OR Spasski-style bear search OR ZipRider/adventure
  • Keep 60+ minutes buffer before all-aboard
  • Skip downtown Hoonah unless shuttle timing is certain

Standard call (about 7–9 hours)

  • Morning: whale watching toward Point Adolphus waters
  • Afternoon: shorter land wildlife/bear search or Hoonah culture visit
  • Or reverse order if seas look rough in the morning
  • Leave shopping/cannery time for the final hour near the hub

Long call (10+ hours)

  • Combo whale + wildlife/bear search if offered for your ship day
  • Add Hoonah community time with respectful pacing
  • Optional SkyGlider or ZipRider only after wildlife priorities
  • Still protect weather and wildlife uncertainty — have a simpler backup
