Chichagof Island supports a dense coastal brown bear population. Guided land tours commonly travel through or past Hoonah into rainforest and muskeg habitat. Summer salmon seasons improve odds — they do not create guarantees.
Expect interpretive guidance, uneven boardwalks, and quiet waiting at viewing platforms. Transport time matters on shorter calls. Combine with whale watching only when your port window clearly supports a longer day.
